The Phil

Welcome to The Phil's 2025-2026 Season!

Our 2025-2026 season explores themes of history, life, nature, and culture. Our October concert opens with Peter Boyer's "Ellis Island" and closes with the contrasting "Symphony #12" of Dimitri Shostakovich. You may remember that Peter Boyer was also the composer of "Rhapsody in Red, White, and Blue", which opened our season last year. We move into the Holiday Season performing with the New England Dance Ensemble's "Nutcracker" and finishing with our popular Holiday Pops concert. In February, we awaken your inner romantic with a special Valentine's Day program. In April, we welcome David Kim, concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra, as soloist in Vivaldi's always magical ode to nature, "The Four Seasons", and conclude with Vaughn William's serene "Symphony #5". Our final concert of the year features Carlos Chavez's homage to his Mexican heritage, "Sinfonia India", Bruch's "Scottish Fantasy" highlighting young violin virtuoso William Yeh, and concluding with Stravinsky's exciting "Petrushka". In a change for this season, both Saturday and Sunday concerts will be 2:00 pm matinees.

Bolero!

This concert offers a captivating journey through the rich landscape of European classical music with a focus on impressions of Spain and Spanish composers. Mozart's lively Overture to "The Marriage of Figaro" kickstarts the evening with its enchanting melodies and irrepressible energy about a certain barber in Seville. Transitioning to the Spanish flair, Manuel de Falla's opera "La Vida Breve" enchants with its passionate and heartrending Andalusian motifs. Adding a unique touch, Simón García's Double Bass Concerto dazzles with its extraordinary exploration of the double bass's expressive potential. This is followed by Rimsky-Korsakov's "Capriccio Espagnol", a vibrant orchestral showpiece brimming with the composer's ingenious orchestrations. The concert culminates with Ravel's mesmerizing "Bolero", a masterclass in orchestral crescendo and a tour de force of hypnotic rhythm and melody. This concert is a delightful ride through musical peaks and valleys, promising an evening full of emotional resonance and exceptional virtuosity.
